MCC-Allegro - 28th December

Here we are again, talking about another Allegro @ MCC. The specialty of this, its the final allegro for the year 2013. And it was so good to see some good games played. Played on 28th of December 2013. Final results are mostly expected one, but there was so tough competition from 1-2 players and more importantly tricky finishes. Unfortunately, I didn't get moves of those games. Did get a photo of final positions.

Let's just go thru the final result in flash. Shall we.

Michael and Dimitri have Joined podium, well on second its Chris and Mohammad(remember this name). , this is in the open section. Mukesh and Tanya took the prize in the second group. Well people playing in MCC Allegro proved worthiness by Mohammad Cheema. He won the game against Michael in a dramatic finish. This make one big statement. Anyone can win, if you play your 'A' game

Here is a game from round 2 @ top board
112318Michael Bar1-0              Will Bakanursky16431

Will Bakanursky had a winning chance against Michael Baron, but messed it all up and ended losing the game in the above fashion. Baron's queen was pinned, and the king is cornered, one move that's all it takes. Baron just needed a window of the gap and utilizes the chance and mated will. Well lesson learned, what we see here is everyone is human and make mistakes. The person who makes second mistakes win the game. It's always very important to remember, walking king is under severe threat of checkmated. Missing such opportunity is never acceptable at good rated players.

Here is an interesting game, this time Between

421547Daniel Dobos       1-0
Will Bakanursky16432

Tactical battle in Allegro will be very challenging and can chew up ur time while u thinking hard. Will made blunder when he moved Nh4 in this position, too many pieces hanging without any co-ordination in such an important position. None is supported here, not even the knight on F6.

Here come the novelty game played by Mohammad Cheema against Michael Baron..

131643Mohammad Cheema
1-0
Michael Baron23184

Cheema completely outplayed Michael, and of course baron made blunders and his opponent was able to spot and crack them into nuts.

MCC Allegro - 21st December

MCC Allegro - 21st December

Allegro, what is an Allegro - It usually represents the word faster or quicker. Well how do we link this with chess? Some will say its the god who made this link in heaven - as in a funny way or its dates back to chess gods in late 80's, who introduced this to the world. In chess, Allegro means 15min chess. It becomes more famous in the chess club to run Allegro games on the weekend, to attract more player to participate or join the club or to encourage new players to start playing chess.

Well here it comes, MCC - Melbourne chess club - Oldest and one of Australia's high rated players Den. MCC is open every given day in a calendar year from 6-pm to late night. MCC is simply one of classy and best club's in Melbourne - located at heart of Fitzroy (66 Leicester St, Fitzroy 3065). Melbourne chess club has many tournaments around the year, which attracts many top chess player in and outside Australia to compete. To name some from our den are IM Ari dale, IM Jame Morris, FM Bill Jordan and many more upcoming players in all age groups. Melbourne Chess club recently added A/C facility in the club to enhance better atmosphere during summer time for the players.

MCC & Allegro - is the two different words mare for each other. MCC Allegro is pretty famous in Melbourne and players never miss them on Saturday's. MCC conducts their Allegro every Saturday at their premises, which attracts minimum of 25-30 people. the event starts at 2pm and goes up to 6-7pm. Comprises 7 rounds in them. Event this Tornelo rated. To name some of the frequent visitors such as, Michael Baron, Rad Chmiel, Shane Lawson, Tony Tosevski, Ray yang, Chris Kolak and Tanya Kolak. There have 3 rated group prizes for 3 players in each of them. Mostly the position go for tough competition, but the open prizes No.1 spot goes to Michael Baron most of the time. MCC also has Allegro championship once a year to grab a title as champion and attractive prize money.

Following information and photos are from MCC club source www.melbournechessclub.org

James Morris, one of Australia's youngest International Masters is a regular at the Allegro.

As is FIDE Master Michael Baron, still one of Australia's highest rated players despite a relative hiatus from competitive chess
in the last couple of years!

There's no need to write down your moves, the games are played at a comfortable 15 minute rate, and the allegro is very welcoming to newcomers to chess and the Melbourne Chess club. With our "rating group" prizes, you stand a good chance of winning prize-money even if you're not at the top of the field.
  • Where? The Melbourne Chess Club: 66 Leicester Street, Fitzroy, Victoria.
  • When? Starts 2pm every Saturday of the year. (Be there at least 5 minutes before!)
  • What? It's a SWISS tournament. What that means is that your opponents are based on your results. If you lose your first round, in round 2 you'll play someone who also lost their first game, if you then win your second round you'll play someone who also has 1/2 points. Win that game- you'll play someone on 2/3, lose it, and you'll play someone who has also won 1/3 of their previous games.
  • How Long? You'll play seven 15 minute games, usually the event runs from about 2-6pm.
  • Cost? The allegro costs $7 dollars for juniors, $10 for adults and $15 for non-members of the MCC ($12 junior non-members). You can find membership info here
  • Who? Masters to novices, 10 year olds to Octogenarians!
  • Parking? You can always find parking on Kay St just over Nicholson St: have at our parking guide by clicking on the link to the left.
  • PRIZES? You can win good prize-money even if you're not in the top 3 of the tournament. There are 1st/2nd/3rd prizes in an "a" rating group and a "b" rating group, depending on how many show up for the allegro that week. This means that players are grouped in 3 tiers and it's possible to win your section and the prize money allotted to it.
  • Ratings? After playing an allegro or two, you will get an official MCC Allegro rating. These are usually updated weekly (depending on how busy volunteers are!) The rating system is fairly simple: Your rating is created based on results in your first tournament or two. From then on, winning against a player rated higher than you mean your rating goes up, losing against a player rated lower than you mean it goes down. Likewise, a draw against a stronger player means an increase, and a draw against a lower rated player means a decrease. Finally, ; the bigger the rating gap between you a your opponent, the larger the change in rating will be. IE. if you are rated 1000 and you beat someone rated 2000, you will jump up quite a lot, but beating a player rated 1100 will result in a more modest gain.

Let's see one of the event of MCC - Allegro completed on 21st of December. It attracted 28 players in total and as always had 7 rounds and as always Michael Baron won this allegro.
